Roc City Boom’s season begins in just a few short days and there is plenty to look forward to. While play can often look rusty the first match of any season, with the three-time WNY Division champs returning no less than 18 players from last year, expect the Boom to hit the ground running for the opener vs. a quality Sahara Gunners FC side from Buffalo, NY.
One RCB player to look out for is captain Peter DiLorenzo. With a team record 22 career goals, DiLorenzo brings both firepower and leadership to the team. His career before joining the Boom has also been an interesting journey. After college, where he became SUNY Brockport’s second all-time leading scorer with 41 goals, he had a trial with German 3rd division side F.C. Carl Zeiss Jena and then spent time with the Chivas USA academy. Prior to his four seasons with the Boom, he played across town with the Rochester Lancers.
Another player Rochester soccer fans will know is Jake Schindler. Jake is coming fresh off an indoor soccer season in MASL2 where he played and coached the Rochester Lancers to an 8-4 record. With hopes he can overcome an injury he suffered late in the indoor season, his ability to organize the team and his leadership will be critical. Several other Lancers will be joining Jake in making the jump back to outdoor soccer with the Boom this season.
The occasion promises ample entertainment outside of the game as well. There will be live music prior to kickoff, scarf giveaways, lawn games, a bounce house for the kids, and more. If you’re looking for food during the match, you’ll have Zbest Foodz available to you where you can expect some traditional gameday fare.
The Boom’s quest for a fourth division title in a row kicks off on Sunday, April 16 at Eastridge High School and 4pm . Gates open at 3pm for those looking to enjoy the pregame festivities.
